Different types of insulators for TV tower

Common type
Umbrella insulator is a suspension insulator with the longest history. It is characterized by simple structure, low cost and suitable for use in clean areas. They are usually used on AC transmission lines.

Disc type
Disc suspension insulator is one of the most common and important line insulators. This kind of insulator is made of iron cap, insulating porcelain parts and feet bonded with cement adhesive. The surface of the steel foot and iron cap in contact with the adhesive shall be thinly coated with a buffer layer, generally asphalt, and there is an elastic pad between the porcelain parts on the top of the steel foot. The surface of porcelain parts is generally white glazed, and the surfaces of iron caps and steel feet are all hot-dip galvanized. A proper gap shall be reserved between the edge of the lower opening of the cap and the insulator to avoid stress damage to the insulator when the material expands.

Disc suspension porcelain insulators mainly include ball and socket connection and groove connection. The ball and socket connection structure has no directionality and has the advantages of convenient assembly and disassembly, especially for live replacement of insulators. Therefore, ball and socket connection structure is generally adopted on high-voltage, ultra-high voltage and ultra-high voltage lines. Slot connection structure, its connection hardware is relatively simple, but it is not convenient for live operation. It is generally used in low voltage lines in China. In order to ensure that the insulator will not fall off from the string during operation, each insulator is equipped with a locking device, in which the ball and socket connection structure is locked with a locking pin, and the slot connection structure is locked with a cylindrical pin and locked with a cotter pin or hunchback pin.

Bell jar type
The umbrella insulator has a long lower edge of the umbrella, the product can realize a large creepage distance, the inner cavity under the umbrella is not easy to be damp, and has a high pollution withstand voltage. It is more suitable for AC and DC transmission lines in coastal, foggy, humid and saline alkali areas.

Double and three umbrella type
Because the products of these two shapes are smooth without edges and open under the umbrella, they have good wind and rain self-cleaning performance, low natural pollution accumulation rate, and large creepage distance, so that the products have a good pollution withstand voltage level. When used in a dusty environment, they can give full play to the advantages of the umbrella structure. This umbrella shaped insulator is called "aerodynamic type", which can adapt to various operating conditions, especially AC and DC transmission lines in heavily polluted, high altitude and desert dry areas.

Straw hat type
The umbrella disc diameter of this product is particularly large, the umbrella is smooth without edges, streamlined structure, good self-cleaning and small pollution accumulation. It is characterized by inserting it in the upper and middle of insulator suspension strings of AC and DC lines. The extra large disc diameter structure can inhibit the flashover of line pollution caused by ice slide and bird droppings.
